CMI Foods, business group of CMI, Corporación Multi Inversiones (CMI), has taken a significant step forward in its commitment to sustainability by obtaining carbon neutral certification for its animal feed plant in El Salvador.

The certification obtained by the Aliansa plant is the result of an integral process aimed at eliminating CO2 emissions at all stages of production. Gabriel Eisenberg, General Director of B4B CMI Foods, emphasized that this certification is proof of the company’s commitment to the well-being of the planet and the communities in which it operates.

To reach this milestone, CMI implemented a series of measures, including the installation of solar panels, the optimization of production processes, and the adoption of energy-efficient technologies. These actions are part of the sustainable development vision of CMI Foods, under the strategic leadership of Juan José Gutiérrez Mayorga as Chairman.

Impact and Benefits of Sustainability at CMI Foods

The plant has succeeded in preventing the emission of 5,287 tons of CO2e, an achievement estimated by the United States Environmental Protection Agency,  to be equivalent to planting 8,741 trees. Additionally, this is the second CMI facility in El Salvador to achieve this distinction, following the certification of the flour mill in 2020.

Fátima Pereira, Director of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at CMI Foods, highlighted that these initiatives are part of a broader effort that has enabled the company to avoid more than 366,000 tons of CO2 regionally over the past eight years. These efforts have allowed them to promote the circular economy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in their operations.

As a result, CMI Foods’ new carbon neutral certification in El Salvador positions it as a leader in sustainability practices and serves as a model for other corporations in the food industry. By effectively integrating sustainable practices into its business model, CMI is improving its operational efficiency and making a significant contribution to the well-being of the planet and local communities.
