In 1992, Juan José Gutiérrez had a vision: bringing education into the workplace. That vision gave rise to Instituto Campero, a program that has transformed the lives of thousands of employees within CMI Foods’ Restaurants & Retail business unit.
Instituto Campero, part of the ¨CMI Educa¨ (education initiatives), celebrated the graduation of its Class of 2025 an achievement that reinforces the role of continuous learning as a strategic pillar within CMI Foods, the business group of CMI, Corporación Multi Inversiones. This milestone aligns with the vision promoted by Juan José Gutiérrez Mayorga, President Chairman of the group, who has repeatedly emphasized the importance of strengthening teams’ technical and academic skills.
The ceremony brought together employees who completed high school programs, diplomas, and certifications, reflecting the organization’s commitment to providing growth opportunities that directly impact professional development and operational performance across Restaurants & Retail brands, including Pollo Campero, Pollo Granjero, La Siciliana, and Suresa (Distribution Center).
A Year of Academic Achievements for the Class of 2025
The Instituto Campero Class of 2025 includes 74 high school graduates in Science and Humanities, 39 graduates of the Restaurant Management Diploma, 74 graduates of the Computer Studies Diploma, and 14 employees certified in English. Overall, the class reflects the program’s sustained efforts and its ability to adapt to participants’ professional needs.
Instituto Campero brings more than three decades of educational experience and thirteen years as a professional training academy. Over this period, it has consolidated an education model endorsed by the Ministry of Education, with standards that support the quality of its programs. In 2025, the number of graduates increased by 57 percent, underscoring the reach and effectiveness of the academic model.
Participant demographics also highlight the program’s national scope: 69 percent come from the capital city and 31 percent from other regions, demonstrating broad geographic coverage and the initiative’s ability to expand access to education across the country.
A Flexible Education Model Aligned with Business Needs
Instituto Campero has strengthened its educational approach by integrating in-person, synchronous, and asynchronous learning formats. This model enables participation by employees with different schedules and operational responsibilities. It also promotes interdisciplinary projects that combine content from multiple courses, encouraging the practical application of knowledge.
One of the most significant advancements this year was the update of the Restaurant Management Diploma, tailored to current industry needs and focused on strengthening operational and management competencies. This enhancement is complemented by extracurricular activities that enrich the learning experience, including cultural visits, institutional celebrations, and initiatives that foster group integration.
The program also incorporated entrepreneurship training through the Productivity and Development Course, where students gained tools to structure business projects. This focus reinforces CMI’s “grow together” vision by developing skills that can become new economic opportunities both within and beyond the organization.
Educational Impact Grounded in the REIR Culture
The training delivered through Instituto Campero reflects the REIR values Responsibility, Excellence, Integrity, and Respect that guide CMI’s organizational culture. Graduates reported improvements in technical skills and practical capabilities related to restaurant operations and business units, as well as stronger discipline, collaboration, and operational safety.
Instituto Campero is part of CMI Educa’s broader commitment to advancing human, academic, and technical development within CMI Foods. Its impact is also linked to the strategic leadership of Juan José Gutiérrez Mayorga, who has promoted initiatives that connect learning with competitiveness, sustainability, and organizational growth.
