The Juan Bautista Gutiérrez Foundation, the social arm of CMI, Corporación Multi Inversiones, marks its 40th anniversary by reaffirming its commitment to education as a driver of development. On this occasion, the Foundation celebrated the awarding of 53 new university scholarships to young people from Guatemala and Honduras, consolidating four decades of work dedicated to expanding opportunities and promoting sustainable progress.

Since its founding in 1985, the Foundation has transformed the lives of hundreds of young people through educational and social programs that reflect the legacy of solidarity and vision of Don Juan Bautista Gutiérrez. Under the leadership of Juan José Gutiérrez Mayorga, President Chairman of CMI Foods and President of the Foundation, the institution continues to pursue its purpose of creating, with family warmth, opportunities that change lives.

Education That Transforms Communities

During the 2025 scholarship selection process, the Foundation received more than 6,460 visits and 1,107 applications. Following a rigorous process that included academic testing, socioeconomic assessments, and personal interviews, students from Guatemala and Honduras were selected by a Committee of Distinguished Members.

These new scholarship recipients join more than 591 beneficiaries supported since the program’s inception, which prioritizes candidates with strong academic potential and a clear commitment to social development. Each student also reflects CMI’s REIR corporate values of Responsibility, Excellence, Integrity, and Respect, which are central to the company’s leadership model.

In the words of Juan José Gutiérrez Mayorga, “We are proud to support the effort and journey of more than 591 scholarship recipients, who have shown that talent, when paired with opportunity, can transform lives.”

Four Decades of Educational Impact

Over its 40 year history, the Foundation has awarded scholarships across all 22 departments of Guatemala and four departments in Honduras, focusing on academic fields with a strong impact on regional development:

  • 73 percent of scholarships are awarded in engineering fields.
  • 27 percent are granted in bachelor’s degree programs across various disciplines.
  • 96 percent of students maintain a grade point average above 80 on a 100 point scale.
  • 83 percent of graduates work in national companies, multinational organizations, or within CMI.

This model goes beyond financial support. Scholarship recipients receive academic guidance, career orientation, and leadership development tools that support both personal and professional growth.

Felipe Bosch Gutiérrez, Vice President of the Foundation and President Chairman of CMI Capital, emphasized that strengthening education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics is essential to building a more competitive and innovative region.

Legacy and Commitment to the Future

Executive Director Cristina Díaz highlighted that each new generation of scholarship recipients represents a story of effort and perseverance. “In them, we see dedication, excellence, and a deep desire to grow. We know they are ready to transform their lives and their communities,” she said.

With this new group of recipients, the Juan Bautista Gutiérrez Foundation reaffirms its role as one of the country’s strongest educational programs, driving human and social development at its core. Its four decade trajectory demonstrates that education changes lives while also generating collective and sustainable progress.
